Rebuilding Your Life at Eden Hill

For many people with substance use disorders, healthy activities of daily living must be reintegrated into a recovering person’s routine. Encouraging the seemingly smallest tasks is the foundation for building self-esteem and fostering confidence, independence and discipline moving forward.

Guests are asked to make their beds every morning, perform their assigned chores as required, and share responsibility for the upkeep of the house. To effectively build routines that can continue at home, each Guest is responsible for abiding by all house rules including the arrival at all group and individual activities on time.

Building Good Habits

Resuming day-to-day obligations like financial matters, correspondence with friends and family, and personal and professional matters are a reality most must face when leaving residential treatment. Learning how to balance the different aspects of being a sober adult can be difficult. Facing and addressing financial or work-related topics can be stressful, so guests are encouraged to seek support from the team and to work on these areas while they are in treatment at Eden Hill. Assisting with step-by-step plans to complete goals, teaching budgeting techniques, helping to set personal boundaries, and other skill building assistance are just a few of the valuable tools the treatment team is ready to offer our guests. Guests are allowed to have their electronic devices as well as a vehicle at Eden Hill and are encouraged to work with their team on reintegrating these tools in a way that will be helpful and supportive to recovery.

Preparing Meals In Our Chef's Kitchen

Our state-of-the-art chef's kitchen inspires our guests to prepare fresh, healthy, and delicious meals. Facility chosen foods are provided for the guests as well as an area for the guests to keep personal items. The guests gather together for dinner every night as a group; sharing in lively conversation around the table. Each night of the week, each guest joins the rotation to prepare dinner for their peers.

For many guests, cooking can be a triggering process. Many guests report that that was the time they used to drink. We help create a new context for this activity by replacing old memories with new, sober ones. This is one example of how living at Eden Hill decreases the stress of the abrupt return home directly after treatment. Other guests report anxiety at the thought of cooking as they have never learned or do not feel it is a strength. These guests are encouraged to be open to the excitement of new experiences and suggest they ask their peers for help; skills that translate and apply to many aspects of recovery. For those who love to cook (or bake!), the beautiful kitchen space allows the opportunity to engage in these supportive hobbies.
