When addiction takes over the life of an individual the disease affects the lives of their family and loved ones. Frequently in early recovery, children are confused and spouses feel abandoned. Many times the focus on the "identified patient" has strained the family emotionally and financially.
Personal interactions can become difficult and ineffective communication can leave the family feeling helpless and sometimes resentful.
Family Therapy
At Eden Hill we believe that the healing process must include those closest to the guest. Founder Dori Gay, LMFT, founded Eden Hill as a safe place for women and their families to recover and support the healing of the family unit. Eden Hill does this through therapy and weekend visits. Upon request, family sessions are available at Eden Hill per a guest’s request.
Guest’s may request visitation with approved family and friends during visiting hours on the weekend. Spending time with loved ones is healing for the family and interpersonal relationships in that it provides space for healing and the opportunity to reconnect and create new positive memories. As the safety of our guests is of paramount importance, any visitation request must be approved by the Director of Eden Hill who reserves the right to deny inappropriate requests. Inappropriate requests may include new relationships, old relationships with persons associated with substance use, and persons with a history of abusive action toward the guest.
Family Visits
If visitors are traveling from far away and would like to stay locally, there are quaint inns and Bed and Breakfasts in the northwest corner of Connecticut. During these visits, family and loved ones are welcome to enjoy time together on our beautiful campus or go out and explore the surrounding towns.
Guest privacy is important to us. If a guest has signed a release of information for a loved one, that loved one can be in contact with the guest’s clinical team. If a guest has not signed a release of information, we will be unable to confirm or deny the guest’s presence in treatment. We welcome you to take pictures of our beautiful grounds and with your loved one, however, for their privacy and safety, we ask that photos not be taken of other guests in the facility.
