Morning

The day’s programming begins promptly at 9 am and runs until 11 am. Each day starts with a morning reflections group in which the plan for the day is reviewed to include group, individual therapy, and case management schedules, as well as the identification of which support group meeting each guest plans to attend. After a plan is set for the day, a guest selects a daily reading. Each individual reflects on that reading and how it relates to their sobriety. Guests can also use this opportunity to check in and ask the group for support with any issues they may be facing.

After reflections, each day of the week offers a unique group experience for the remainder of the morning programming. Activities include a private yoga class, Big Book Study, art-based programming, skill building, relapse prevention, and other topics.

  • Our Monday morning includes a yoga and meditation class. This class provides residents the opportunity to practice mindfulness, grounding techniques and Mind-Body-Spirit connection. Yoga instructor Suzanne Mazzarelli, MSW, PYT is a pioneer in the field of the Mind-Body-Spirit approach to recovery. She tailors the class to each woman's comfort level and abilities.
  • Our Tuesday morning includes a Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) group with our Licensed Psychologist, Dr. Diane Dillon. DBT is an evidence based modality that teaches residents four sets of behavioral skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
  • Our Thursday morning includes a processing and Loving Listening group with Dr. Dillon that utilizes evidence based modalities, such as Imago Relationship Therapy, to assist our residents in learning new tools to navigate new and old relationships.
  • Our Friday morning includes an art therapy class to allow or residents to utilize the other half of their brains to contemplate recovery topics or to experience a mindful and relaxing task to utilize as a coping skill in the future.

Mid-Day

free time activities on campus

Our guests attend an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Group at High Watch Recovery Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1pm to 4pm.

On non-IOP days, guests have personal time from 11AM-3PM. This scheduled free time allows guests to practice managing free time in a sober, productive manner. Boredom is a common trigger for many persons in recovery and therefore it is an important feeling to learn how to manage. Many women use this time to attend a local noon AA meeting or take advantage of their complimentary gym membership. Others prefer to use this part of their schedule to work on personal goals, investigate hobbies, take time for self-care. It is also an opportune time to explore the area. This might include either going for a hike or visiting the nearby towns of Great Barrington or Salisbury for coffee or ice cream.

Afternoon Group

On non-IOP days, the guests meet for a recovery group meeting from 3pm-4pm run by one of our certified addictions counselors. These group meetings allow for an opportunity to touch base with peers and staff, gain support, and participate in a recovery based activity or discussion.

Family Dinner

cooking dinner at eden hill

To encourage guests to be self-sufficient and to practice self-care, we ask a different guest to be responsible for cooking dinner every night. If you are not experienced, do not worry! This tradition invites collaboration and it is a wonderful sight to watch our guests band together to help, teach and learn from one another. It's wonderful to smell the food being prepared and to hear the laughter and music that accompanies the cooking. Gaining positive experiences in recovery is paramount for success.

Weekends

On weekends guests have time to themselves to work on personal goals, investigate or participate in hobbies, explore the area, and spend time with peers, approved visitors, or recovery supportive friends. Eden Hill invites parents, spouses, children and other loved ones on Saturdays and Sundays to visit. These visits allow guests to remain close to those who matter most.

On Saturday mornings at 10:30am there is a morning reflections group which provides an opportunity for each guest to check-in with the group.

On Sunday evenings we hold our weekly house meeting to check-in, review chores for the week ahead, and to recognize guests for exceptional work within the program.
